More Great Books!

Ok, so I went to my favorite used bookstore and found some great finds on some more medical books for my library! I picked up 3 books there. The first is, The First Year LUPUS by Nancy C. Hanger. I really enjoyed this book even though I am well past my first year of diagnosis. It broke down the information in easy to absorb amounts and spoke in layman terms. I read through this 227pg book in 2 days! I will definitely be keeping this one for my personal library. I enjoy going back through my books, especially when I have had some disease changes. This book is one is a series of books that help you through the first year of a disease diagnosis. They have several including MS, IBS, Diabetes, Hypothyroidism and Fibromyalgia. I plan on picking up a few more and getting the Diabetes Type 2 book for my Father who has recently been diagnosed.

The second book I picked up is called, Lupus Q and A, Everything You Need To Know, by Robert G. Lahita and Robert H. Phillips. This book was interesting, informative, but not as easy to absorb as the other one mentioned above. I skimmed through this one in about a day, as it has a very easy Q & A format. I will keep this one as it has some great information regarding tests and advanced therapy for organ involvement. Luckily at this point I am not needing that!

The third book I purchased is called, Fibromyalgia, Simple Relief through Movement. It is by Stacie L. Bigelow. I have just started it and have found it to be very interesting thus far! I will write more once I finish it.

Well now you can tell what I have been doing with my time lately! Reading! I took a small road trip with my husband to Pennsylvania, from Tennessee, for a business trip. It was about a 9 hour drive and I did fairly well on the way up. We of course stopped about every 2 hours to stretch and move about. The first day I stayed under a shade tent and kept him company, but the second day I stayed at the hotel. It was nice to get out of the house and spend some time with him. There was not as much humidity up there so we were able to get out in the evening hours and it was much easier on me. On the way home we stopped in WA D.C. to tour through the Holocaust Museum as prior trips we had small children with us and didn't feel it was appropriate. It was very interesting, tiring and sad. Of course the content was the sad & interesting part, but the tiring part was that it starts on the 4th floor and you work your way down. I was feeling better that day so I was walking without assistance. There was a lot of reading and I had to sit down several times to rest. Thank goodness this was our only activity for the day because I was so tired after 2 hours. My lovely husband walked the 6 blocks or so to get the truck and picked me up in front of the building. I would do it again, just maybe with assistance next time!

So, we got home and I have had a week to rest and get stuff together for a family beach trip with my parents. We are heading to Carolina Beach, NC for a week and the girls are looking forward to it. I like the beach, but it is not the best place for a Lupie to be! I have packed all my sunblock, hats, sun clothing, sun tent, etc. in hopes that I can enjoy a few hours each day. I plan on spending mainly mornings & evenings on the beach and stay inside during the afternoon hours to help keep flares down. We will see how it goes! I may or may not be able to write when I am there, if I can I will hopefully have good news to share!
Until then!
